United States: A new study cites that COVID 19 is likely to have been increasing cases of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). US National Institutes of Health’s long COVID information reports suggest that ME/CFS has increased to 15 times the number it was before the pandemic.
It also discovered that Covid-19 survivors have about 7.7 times higher chances of getting this exhausting chronic ailment. Will the long-term effect of COVID spread further than we are seeing? Here is what the study found out.
According to the lead author Dr Suzanne D Vernon of Bateman Horne Center research “This research clearly emphasizes the need for healthcare providers to understand post-COVID-19 ME/CFS.”

According to the iflscience.com ME/CFS is actually a post-viral condition and the basis for this pathology can be traced back to some viral illness. It begins with a mere flu, and the person is fine only for a long list of disabling symptoms to start cropping up at a later date.
If that sounds familiar when discussing COVID, that is because there are many similarities between ME/CFS and long COVID. While some of the long COVID patients have organ damage resulting from the virus or are suffering from the aftereffects of a severe illness and hospitalization, some others had only a mild case of COVID and then developed brain fog, fatigue, and dizziness.

However, long COVID is much more recent than ME/CFS, and, more importantly, the idea of post-viral syndromes. However, patients describe barriers to getting diagnosed and treated; encounter discrimination, misconceptions, and contradictory recommendations; these aspects are illustrated in this case in the Work journal.
Not only has the idea that ME/CFS has biological roots that impact the body’s functional systems been affirmed, but the degree to which this is true has also become quite evident. The severity of breast cancer varies, and its treatment affects normal functioning in society or at homes.
Another paramount criterion particularly for many patients is post-exertional malaise, representing a notion that symptoms such as fatigue are worsened after physical activities. CDC says that about one in every four people with the condition are likely to end up being bed-bound at some point in the illness.
